March 2019 and a shiny second store for Brazen Brownies & Dessert Bar opened in Harp Village, Kew East!
The huge space was previously the home of Lunigiana Gelateria, but a change of ownership and a tropical make-over gives a more welcoming environment.
The mood is set by a huge mural of a Maui beach scene. Golden sunset, palm trees. Why Maui? A place of happy memories – where Brazen’s owners, Caroline and George, were married.
And just like the Fairfield store, Kew East also has its own life-size bear, but in a nod to the tropical theme, he is dressed in Hawaiian board shorts. Naturally.
The renovations are not yet complete – bigger plans are afoot…
Brownies are Brazen’s specialty, with the basic version – Wicked Chocolate Addition – and several variations available in either single serves ($5) or family sized slabs ($15). Gluten free options are available.
But we come for Brazen’s house-made gelati. There are around 20 gelati flavours, served in cups or cones. Or with the signature brownies. The menu extends to other sweet indulgences – smoothies and shakes, waffles and cakes.
When we visited, Caroline was doing a test bake for a huge custom cake. The kitchen is enormous – plenty of room to whip up another batch of brownies while churning out Brazen’s artisan gelati. Everything is made on-site.
The double chocolate brownie gelato is a no-brainer for me, with huge chunks of fudgy brownie. Paired with a fruity blackberry sorbetto, it is an excellent combination.
Benny’s choice: peach, paired with vanilla. He loved the light and summery peach, with the vanilla being a good match for the delicate fruit.
It’s always a pleasure to visit Brazen – lovely people and great customer service.
UPDATE: Brazen Brownies in Kew East is now closed, however its Fairfield store is still open.
Great customer service, generous helpings and excellent gelati. And for an extra special treat, try a signature brownie on the side.
